The Dallas Cowboys have not lost a game that New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has attended this season, including Sunday’s wild-card victory against the Detroit Lions.
“He’s part of our mojo,” Jones said Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I want him there all the way. I’ll tell you, if he’s got enough mojo to pull this thing out, he ought to be looked at as president of the United States.”
Christie’s trip to Sunday’s game, however, has come under some scrutiny from New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles fans, who are upset he would be a fan of their NFC East rivals.
Christie’s spokesman Kevin Roberts told ESPN.com on Monday that Jones paid for Christie’s trip, including travel and tickets, so no New Jersey taxpayer funds were used.
Roberts also said that Christie is allowed to take Jones up on his offer thanks to the personal friend exemption in the Code of Conduct for the New Jersey governor, which stated that the governor “may accept gifts, favors, services, gratuities, meals, lodging or travel expenses from relatives or personal friends that are paid for with personal funds.”
Curated from Jerry Jones: Gov. Christie is part of our mojo.
Why are New Jersey residents getting so riled up over Governor Christie rooting for the Dallas Cowboys? They seem to be upset because he isn’t a New York Giants fan. The keyword in that sentence is New York.
I thought this was the United States of America? Does the public really have the right to dictate what NFL team a person chooses to root for? Why should New Jersey residents be upset with the fact that Governor Chris Christie is a Dallas Cowboys fan? I believe that they fail to realize that New Jersey does not have its own NFL team. Sure, the NY Jets and NY Giants play in the state of NJ but they aren’t NJ teams.
The people of NJ should rest easy since no taxpayers funds were used to send Governor Christie on this playoff trip. Okay, his security detail had to be paid for by the state but is that really as bad as let’s say, President Obama. President Obama took a two week Christmas vacation to Hawaii. Taxpayers had to pay for his security detail and never mind the loss of revenue due to his arrival. Places had to be closed down for security reasons but this wasn’t the case for Governor Christie.
So bottom line is if Governor Chris Christie wants to root for the Dallas Cowboys and watch the games at the stadium, I’m fine with that.
