China is the world’s largest fur exporter. We all know that China produces a majority of the world’s products due to a cheap labor force and the fur industry is no exception. Although there are other nations that participate in fur farming, there are no penalties for abusing animals on fur farms in China. This enables Chinese fur farmers to slaughter the animals any way they like. They don’t care if the animal endures extreme suffering, as long as its pelt remains intact.
I won’t shock you by posting gruesome pictures. For one, it might distract you from continuing to read this. Number two, pictures won’t have the same effect as watching actual footage. PETA has a video released on YouTube. Although this video has been out for awhile, I only stumbled upon it recently. I found it to be appalling. In this video, actress Olivia Munn describes the animal atrocities committed on China’s fur farms and it’s accompanied by actual footage. Let me warn you that this video is EXTREMELY GRAPHIC! However, I think it’s necessary that you view the video in order to grasp what is actually being done on these Chinese fur farms.
China has done nothing, other than dispute the validity of the video. Let me tell you that there is absolutely no CGI or special effects whatsoever in this video. Their argument is pointless and they should be more focused on reform.
The Chinese are Fooling You
What animal is that fur item of yours? Fox? Mink? Are you sure? China’s fur farmers slaughter millions of cats and dogs every year just so their furs can be turned into trim and the like. Products made from the fur of dogs and cats are often mislabeled as the fur from a different animal. These products are sold to unsuspecting people and they don’t even realize that they are wearing cat or dog fur!
Many of the cats and dogs are or we’re someone’s loving pet. Once in the hands of these fur farmers, they are abused beyond belief. They are skinned alive! Then, their skinless, furless bodies are tossed onto a pile, where they continue to suffer and bleed. Only after many more minutes of agonizing suffering do they finally succumb to death.
Imagine people who were bigger and stronger than you put you into cramped captivity. Then, they proceed to pull and tug all of your skin off your body, while you’re kicking and screaming. Try to imagine the excruciating pain, while you slowly die. How long would you survive? Minutes? An hour? This is the plight of these poor animals.
Who Wears Fur?
I am not a vegetarian. I also do not agree with many of PETA’s extreme beliefs. However, I do believe animals shouldn’t be made to suffer. But my real question is who the hell actually wears fur in this day and age?
I’m not posing this question for any tribes and such that may exist in the world. This question is for the modernized nations of the world. With all of our advanced technology and knowledge, why feel the need to wear something as barbaric as fur? If you still feel the need to wear fur after watching that video, I think something like faux fur would be a better alternative. Luckily, designer brands like Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and Stella McCartney have decided to be 100% fur-free. Hopefully, other designer brands will follow suit.
After reading this and watching that YouTube video, you will get that same burning feeling inside that I did. I don’t wear fur and never have but by spreading the message hopefully others will be enlightened. Animal rights laws in China aren’t going to be reformed in the foreseeable future. However, if the demand for the pelts produced by China’s fur farmers goes down, so will the supply. Please share this story and spread the word.
